See You Tomorrow

Naturally it is night.
Smaller stars have replaced the sun.
They shine farther away in the universe,
and tonight they must be hiding behind black clouds.

Once in awhile you get a night
that seems post-apocalyptic,
where everyone hides from
everyone else for no reason.

Sometimes the sky gets so empty and vacantly dark
that you’d think people forgot to pay the lunar bills,
or the moon just said, “screw it”
and took the night off.
